The Cambridge Public Employees Dental and Vision Fund provides continuation of dental and vision coverage in accordance with federal law by the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985, otherwise known as COBRA. This allows you and your dependents to continue dental and vision benefits from the Fund, only when coverage is lost due to a certain specific "qualifying event," when coverage would otherwise terminate.
The maximum length of COBRA Continuation Coverage is 36 months, depending on the "qualifying event." By paying a monthly premium, you and/or dependents can continue with the same identical dental and vision coverage you previously had. If you elect COBRA, you must enroll in both dental and vision benefits. You cannot choose one or the other.
